Self-described as a mutant/sentinel dichotomy, Fantomex is a product of the Weapon Plus program and its experiments on human/technology hybrids. He was designed with three brains, all with different characteristics and abilities. At one point his brain was split in three and each received a cloned body. Apparently the three were eventually combined back into one.
